Franklin’s in Buda: A Private Car Camping Sanctuary for the Brave

If you are looking for a “bukid” escape that offers total privacy, a touch of adrenaline, and ice-cold spring water, Franklin’s in Brgy. Sumalili, Buda, is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. Located along the Bukidnon-Davao Highway, this destination offers an exclusive vibe that feels like having the mountains all to yourself.

However, getting there is not for the faint of heart. For the Manakaay community, here is the honest “trail intel” you need before you pack your rig.

The Drive: A Test of Momentum and Commitment

One of the biggest challenges when visiting Franklin’s is the road itself. There are two major technical sections that require absolute focus:

  1. The “Solitary House” Slope: A few meters before reaching the main gate, you will see a solitary house on your right. Immediately after, you must turn left into a deep, steep downhill slope.
  2. The Franklin U-Curve: Once inside the gate, the road becomes a sharp “U” curve. You have to plunge downwards and immediately find the momentum to scale a steep uphill climb.

Manakaay Tech Tip: The road is a “twin-ribbon” cement path designed specifically for vehicle tires. There is no room for error and no space to U-turn. Once you commit to the descent, you must be ready for the ascent. Remember, you’ll have to face this same hurdle in reverse when you head home!

Car Camping and The “Exclusive” Vibe

The parking area is located at the far end of the property at the top of the ridge. This area is small—fitting only about 2 to 3 cars—which adds to the private and exclusive feel of the place.

This parking area doubles as the camping site, which is where we set up our car camping tent. During our stay, we were the only ones there, giving us a peaceful, revitalizing experience that felt entirely private. While some areas have been cleared for amenities, the backside of the property is still thick with trees. We hope the management continues to preserve this “close to nature” atmosphere.

Modern Amenities in the Heart of Nature

Despite its remote feel, Franklin’s has invested in a wide array of amenities to cater to both day tour guests and overnight campers.

  • Connectivity: They offer Starlink Internet, making it possible to stay connected or even work remotely while surrounded by the forest.
  • Adrenaline & Fun: Beyond the Zipline, you can experience the 360 Gyro Chair, which offers a unique spin on mountain views.
  • Nature & Relaxation: Cool down in the Nature Pool (approximately 5 feet deep), gather around the Outdoor Fireplace at night, or explore the various Hiking Trails.

The nature pool is actually fed by a natural cold spring. If you want a truly “revitalizing” (and freezing!) experience, dip in the early morning. Hearing stories from the caretaker, we learned that the water likely originates from a deep source coming from nearby caves. According to the local Datu or Chieftain, caving trips can be scheduled for guests—a high priority for our next visit!

Unexpected Guardians

One of the highlights of our overnight stay was the local company. A mother dog and her puppies approached us and stayed by our side, guarding our camp from evening until morning. It added a layer of safety and warmth to the cold Buda night.

Plan Your Manakaay Escape to Franklin’s

Whether you are visiting for a Day Tour or an overnight Car Camping expedition, Franklin’s provides a unique balance of rugged adventure and modern convenience.

  • Location: Brgy. Sumalili, Buda (Bukidnon-Davao Highway), Davao City, Philippines.
  • Contact: To coordinate your visit or inquire about the road conditions, you can message them on their Official Facebook Page or contact them directly at 0917-705-4294.

“The road to Franklin’s requires a ‘point of no return’ mentality. You have to trust your vehicle and your momentum to conquer the sharp U-curves, but the reward is a private sanctuary that feels worlds away from the city.”
